Navizon now available for the iPhone.

In early 2005, a small group of hardcore GPS geeks (who were tired of their GPS devices not working in dense cities, urban canyons, indoors, etc) got together to come up with a solution that would enhance the performance of their GPS equipment and applications. Our goal was to find a way to make our own GPS devices work in difficult, if not IMPOSSIBLE situations.

The result was Navizon Pocket PC Client Software.

But then we got to thinking; not everybody can afford a GPS receiver and sometimes people who do own them often don't have them handy when they need them -- so -- wouldn't it be cool if you could accurately navigate urban and suburban areas using just WiFi and Cellular signals? I'm mean, those signals are pretty much everywhere people are...

Our thinking lead us to envision a dynamic, collaborative, networked "Wireless Positioning System" that would be 1) EASY and 2) FUN! -- that could help people in cities and suburbs around the world navigate using only available wireless signals (Cellular and 802.11 WiFI).

This is the Navizon Network.

It sounds like a simple concept -and with Navizon it is.

If you use Navizon with your GPS enabled device and share the data you collected with the rest of the Navizon Network, you'll have access to some very cool and very powerful features of the system, and you can even earn rewards!

If you don't have a GPS enabled device, you can use the Lite version of Navizon for free, or you can buy the more complete Premium version, which includes all the features. (Free to try, $9.99 for one time license)

The positioning data contained in the Navizon Network is both contributed, shared and used by Members. This positioning data can be used for personal navigation, social networking, moblogging, photoblogging, geo-tagging, entertainment and fun!

Our rules are simple:

  1. Members who contribute their positioning data to the Navizon Network - in other words, users who have a GPS enabled device - can use the positioning data of others Members who do the same, and earn rewards for the data they collect.

  2. Users who want to access to the Navizon Network location data, without a GPS enabled device can use the Lite version of Navizon, which is free  and uses Cellular based positioning, or they can use the Premium version of Navizon, (Free to try, $9.99 to buy) which uses both Cellular based positioning, and highly accurate Wi-Fi based positioning. Either way, they will benefit from the Navizon wireless positioning system as well as all the cool features that come with it.

  3. All users benefit from the network, even Navizon users who have a GPS enabled device, as Navizon works where GPS doesn't. (indoors, urban canyons etc.)

  4. The location data that Navizon network members collect, use and share, DOES NOT CONTAIN any unique or identifiable information about a users or their movements. The architecture of our system and software is similar to that of the original GPS system but you and your devices are NEVER TRACKED by a central server. Our privacy policy can be found here.

  5. Have FUN using Navizon!

Besides joining the Navizon Network and using our software and services, a great way to help support our efforts is to tell your friends and colleagues about us.

We'd really appreciate your help in spreading the word about what an easy, useful and powerful tool the Navizon Wireless Positioning System is, to help people find their way in the world.

Thanks for your support,

The Navizon Team
