Q: What are the rules of
the rewards system?
A: -
- you get points for every new data point (cell tower
or WiFi ap) that you map on your account.
- one same data point cannot earn you rewards twice (i.e. if
you map on your way to work back and forth every day, you're
going to earn points only once for the cell/aps that were
mapped on the way).
- however if a data point has been mapped by someone else,
it still qualifies for rewards but it will give you less
points
- For a cell tower you will get 15 points if you are the
first one to map it but 2 points if it has already been
mapped by someone else. For a WiFi access point, the same
logic applies: 3points if you are the first one to map it
but 1 point if it has already been mapped by someone else.
Q: Every day on my
way to work, I am mapping data. However, when I synchronize
it, the total in my rewards page doesn't change. Why?
A: This is
because you only get rewarded for any given Cell tower or
Wi-Fi Access Point once. So if you take the same route over
and over again, it won't help you much from a rewards
standpoint: you will only get the points once for the data
collected along the way.
But if you take another route
from point A to point B, you will earn rewards for that. So you
can try taking a different road each time as long as it doesn't
make you show up too late at work ;-)
Q: I see that someone
else already mapped my area? Can I earn rewards if I map the
same area?
A: Absolutely.
But you might be getting a little less points than if you go
in a place that has been unexplored by anyone but you will
see get points. And even if you go in a place that has
already been mapped by someone else, keep in mind that
people install new Wifi access points every day (and
operators also install new cell towers every day). So you
might be collecting some brand new data points even if you
go in a place that has already been mapped.
Q: I uploaded a
Netstumbler or a WiFiFoFum log file. The rewards page
doesn't reflect this upload. Is this normal?
A: Yes, only
the data that has been mapped with Navizon (or with the
Navizon API) qualifies for rewards. You can upload
NetStumbler and WiFiFoFum for the good of the rest of the
community but you won't earn rewards for those.
Q: Navizon shows that I
mapped X Cell towers and APs. The rewards page only shows Y
new cell towers and APs mapped. Why?
A: Navizon
indicates the number of data points collected for the
current session. But that doesn't mean that these data
points have not been mapped by you already. Again, you only
get rewards once for any given Cell Tower or WiFi Access
point. So the counter on Navizon gives you a good indication
of the data that you mapped since you launched Navizon, but
the rewards page will only count those that have been mapped
for the first time by you (again, if they have been mapped
by someone else, thats OK: they still count).
Q: I am under the
impression that I mapped a ton of data. I only see a fraction of
this data accounted for in my rewards page. Something doesn't
add up...
A: We are totally
transparent on the way rewards are calculated. And if you think
something is not right, you can do the math yourself. Just go in
your member section, hit "Coverage" then "My data". You will see
all the unique data points that you have mapped. Then compare
that to the total number of points in your rewards page and you
will see that the numbers are consistent.
Q: Is there a maximum
number of rewards that I can earn?
A: No. The more you
drive, the more you earn.
Q: I created
two accounts.
Can I earn rewards twice for the same data points?
A: No you cannot earn
points twice for the exact same data. However if you have two
phones with two different operators or if one phone is mapping
wifi and one is mapping cell towers, then yes, your points can
qualify for rewards. But they will need to be mapped with the
same account.
Q: What if I use two
accounts anyway to earn more rewards?
A: Sure, you can try.
But if you do that, we reserve the right to close your account.
Pure and simple.
